So, what do you do when TTC isn’t working? We all know that you just want to make it happen right? You want to be pregnant and you want it NOW! So impatient as we are as a human race we just want to crack on and get things in place. Whether you are fixing your cycle, prepping for IVF or figuring out how to help your body have a healthy and safe pregnancy I am sure you will agree, the ‘fertility enhancing’ options are utterly endless.
So how do you know if you have the balance right? There is one very easy way to know.
All you need to do is ask yourself this question:
Does my current practice make me feel good right in this moment?
I know it’s a bit shockingly simple – but it truly all comes down to the feeling. The feeling you have is your well being monitoring system and this is how your body responds to situations.
Everything you have chosen to include in your getting pregnant plan needs to bring you ease. It needs to be comforting, it needs to tick a box that says – YES having or doing this is definitely what my body needs and I totally GET why I am doing it. It makes SENSE to me and I feel pretty good about it.
If you have had created a frenzied bundle of components and are temping and ovulation sticking, and take 10 supplements based on stuff you read about other people that take them and said it worked and it makes you feel at ease then yup you have a good formula.
If however, all it does is make you feel frantic and out of control and you are still on edge then you have not got the formula quite right.
It’s not really about the stuff nearly as much as how the stuff makes you feel. Let your emotional well being be the gauge because when you feel comforted and at ease your body is WAY more likely to get itself sorted and conceive.
The components of your plan don’t even have to be directly related to fertility but if they are getting you in a good space then they WILL positively affect and influence it.
Last of all, my parting words – be prepared to let your plan fluctuate in intensity. Going on a huge full on detox and checking everything that’s happening with monitors etc might feel perfect and amazing for a couple of months, but there may be months where it feels more right to kick back and take your eye off the ball a little. All things are awesome if they make you feel awesome and being totally ‘on it’ and doing a ton of brilliant stuff can do you the world of good – saying ‘f*** it’ and having a month of being allowed to go out for non organic meals, bottles of wine and amazing coffee once in a while can also do you the world of good.
So use your feelings as a meter. Don’t do or not do things because of fear or even out of pity for yourself, don’t do ‘oughts’ or ‘shoulds’ do what YOU need to feel as good as you possibly can in that exact moment.
Just check in every once in a while and ask why you are doing each thing (or indeed not doing a particular thing) and make sure its presence of absence is feeling right and comfortable and helpful. There are no rights and wrongs – only what makes you feel good in the moment.
